I love a good psychological mystery where you don’t know what questions to ask! Minus a quarter point for occasional show-not-telling, especially with appearances, though I think the author did the best she could & I haven’t found a way that I really like character’s appearances being described in any novel, really. Another quarter point for the idea that
someone who is the victim of grooming can also be the abuser
. I know it’s fiction, and I know that’s part of the point of the book to focus on that relationship, but I think people could take away the wrong idea from it. Women don’t really need to be told that
they aren’t victims in that scenario
, even if that isn’t really what the book is trying to say. (I hope that makes sense, lol).
Besides the minor deductions, this was a really enjoyable read. I always wanted to know what would happen next & I kept being surprised up until the very end. Unreliable narrator is done very, very well & we already know from the beginning that “None of This is True”.

The audio book for this was great - I think it’s a factor in what kept me hooked.

I listened to the audiobook and the voice acting really brought the story to life. I was confused at first, listening to it switch from podcast to documentary but the sound made it easy to picture. Definitely going to read again.

This was a twisting, turning story with unreliable narrators all the way through. Just when you think you're truly getting to the truth of it, another thing pops up to make you doubt something. And the title of the book itself has you going in from the get-go in sleuth mode trying to figure out what's real and what isn't. That this is set against the backdrop of true crime podcasts and Netflix documentaries, both of which are genres known for their biased reporting and clever editing, only makes it more interesting. What's real? What isn't? Is Josie nuts, or is Alix? Is everyone nuts? What's up with their husbands?

Anyway, I finished it and I still have no idea what's the real, honest-to-god truth, and I'm both cranky and not that Lisa Jewell clearly meant it to do that to me. Hah.
