When Lisa Jewell titles her book "None of This is True" she really leaves your head spinning. What is true, what isn't true, is anything true??

We have our main character Josie who is married to Walter. He is 26 years older than her and they began dating when she was 15 years old! They started sleeping together when she was 16 and they were married when she was 18. This book starts on her 45th birthday, Walter is now and old man at 72.

Josie and Walter have 2 daughters Erin and Roxy - who are both in their 20's. Erin has some special needs and is a full time online gamer, she still lives at home. Roxy ran away when she was 16, also has issues, was diagnosed with Oppositional Defiance Disorder as a child.

On her birthday, at dinner with Walter, Josie meets semi famous podcaster Alix Summers who is also celebrating her birthday with her husband Nathan, her sisters and a group of friends.

This becomes the chance meeting that sets the wheels in motion for disaster.

As we progress and Josie becomes the topic of Alix's new podcast "Hi, I'm your Birthday Twin" we learn about Josie's difficult childhood, her relationship with a grown man as a teenager and the abuse she has suffered at this hands over the years.
We learn Nathan isn't the best husband to Alix either, he goes off on drinking benders and spends nights away from home and doesn't respond to his wife. His benders are getting more and more frequent.

It is clear Josie is off, she is stalking Alix and has an agenda, but we don't know what it is. The first 2/3 of this book are a slow burn, but her story is coming out slowly so I'm hooked and wanting to know more.

The end of this book moves a bit faster as all the stuff starts to happen. (too many spoilers so I can't share what happens here!!)

The very last 'letter' in this book provides NO clarity, we are left to make our own assumptions on who is truthful, who is lying, or does the truth fall somewhere in between? This book is written in a way we'll never know.

Gripping, triggers galore of pedophilias and child abuse. None of the animals are harmed! Read at your own risk, while I enjoyed the guessing game of the ride, I was left disappointed without a clear ending. 3.5

Spoilers for me, don't read if you want to read this book!
Josie's husband Walter is beaten and tied up with duct tape and placed in the tub where it appears he dies from a heart attack. Erin is beaten and tied to the 'childs' chair in the coat closet, when she is found she is near death but manages to survive, has her own story to tell when she comes out of her coma that her mother did this because she hates them all and hates that the girls love their father. She denied any allegations of her father abusing her or her sister Roxy. Roxy comes back from her new home to speak about her mother and sides with Erin, said her mother is awful. A key is found and it appears Josie killed Roxy's HS Girlfriend and hid her in the trunk of a car. Josie kidnaps Nathan and drugs him to show Alix how good her life can be without him. Then his body is found in a lake, apparently killed at the hands of Josie.
The last chapter of this book is Josie writing a letter to Alix stating that her daughters are lying, that Walter was abusive, and that Roxy killed her HS girlfriend and that Josie, Erin & Walter helped her cover it up and hide the body. She claims Nathan's death was accidental.
We are left with he said, she said, no resolution, no answer as to who actually did what. Extremely frustrating.

Perfect listen for when you have to motivate yourself to pack an entire apartment up. Definitely think the audiobook is probably the way to go as it has a full cast of narrators and is about a podcast so it’s a close experience
