I absolutely loved this retelling of The Great Gatsby and how it blended historical setting with modern consciousness. It was a breath of fresh air! Race identity politics mixed with gender and sexual identity politics in the middle of the roaring 20’s with a happy ending. And I love that the author snuck in a Mexican man Wall Street novice predicting the stock market crash.

A solid gatsby retelling through a queer, POC lens. I love every one of these Macmillan remixes so far.

Self-Made Boys was a little slow for me. I liked the characters and liked the twist of the characters but it just didn’t hold my attention like Most Ardently did.

I just think if you're going to write a book spinning off another in which the historical setting is one of the most recognisable aspects of the original, you have to either change the setting or do your research. Within the first pages it was clear that this author had done neither. I know too much about historical fashion to cope.
