I enjoyed reading this book: the worldbuilding is cool and the characters are nice and all, but I kept wondering whether the author accomplished every single similarity by heart or did he have Tolkien's work on the side? My personal favorites are a) magic camouflage cloak; b) group of 9 people that go on an adventure, eventually getting separated into smaller groups and somehow the old paternal dude dies (but not really); c) this place under a "Shadow" where nature is corrupted, it's really hot, it smells bad and scary things live there. Sounds familiar. I could go on, but I think the fact that I noticed there was actually a kingdom called Andor on the map when I flipped the first pages, considering I kept reading anyway, means that there are enough positive aspects in this book for it to be worth my time.

  • sooo okay. starting the wheel of time. I DID really enjoy the scope of the world, and the characters, and the clear history.
  • that said, it was very slow. the middle of this book dragged. it’s the very definition of travel fantasy log… which I struggle with
  • I love the characters though
  • okay I know it’s setting up
    Lan and Nynaeve
to be together, but maybe it’s the enemies to lovers fan in me but I’m shipping
    Mat and Nynaeve
  • not enough was done with Rand and Egwene’s build up, like they just already liked each other and everyone knew… that said, I LOVE Egwene. I wish we got more of her POV than the first chapter. she’s so real
  • Rand kind of grated on me… his pov was the worst. I have a feeling he’ll grow on me though
  • I THINK Morraine is trustworthy but she’s hiding secrets and it’s stressing me out
  • I keep thinking… I love the whole main cast… but surely one of them is a Darkfriend just the way stories go… but I trust and love them all so I hope not
  • I know everyone online is obsessed with Mat but actually he annoyed me too I’m like grow up and stop being dumb
  • I NEED a sword training montage for Rand next book
  • Oh also I can’t wait for Elaine and her brother, I have a feeling they’ll become bigger characters and I love them
  • I’m looking forward to future books because I’ve heard it gets really good but I did have to force my way through most of this

Ok read for me ! My main problem with the book is the pacing sometimes good and very meh others
My main issue is with the climax it feels as if it was rushed and fast
Let's see how it goes in the next book
