This book was a gut punch, if you want to feel what it's like to be in an abusive relationship, read this book. The warning in the beginning gets you into the right mindset: "From time to time as you read along you will be asked to make a choice. Your choice will have no meaningful impact on anything that happens" and damn if that isn't how it feels to be in that sort of relationship.
This was really fast and I read it in one sitting in about an hour. You'll want to be in the right headspace for it, but I very much recommend it. The thing that didn't quite work for me was the alien ant sub plot as that is more in line with the original choose your own adventure books, so I understand why it was there, but I think it would have been better if there were more parallels drawn between what was going on with the ants and what was going on with the narrator and Anne.
