Another sad story about a young girl stuck in a polygamy sect in Utah and how she was able to bring that horrible man to justice.

This book is the personal account of life inside the FLDS cult, as experienced by Rebecca Musser. She received an education at the cult ran school, headed by Warren Jeffs. Warren Jeffs is a vile little cretin, and I have no problem what so ever saying it. As a teenager, she was married to the leader at the time, Rulon Jeffs, who was eighty five years old. I have a serious problem with arranged marriage, and I just cannot imagine being told I was going to marry someone who was older than my own grandfather without having any say over it. I am so proud of her for having the courage to stand up for herself and for other girls who were forced into what essentially amounts to sexual slavery, and bringing her story to the public. The FLDS and those in charge have some real audacity, and it is tragic that they get away with so many criminal activities under the umbrella of religious doctrine.
What an amazing story of strength and courage! I think a lot of people think people in a cult, such as the FLDS, are just crazy for staying and question why people don't just leave the cult. Reading about Musser's childhood, I see how strong brainwashing can be. It was the only life she knew, even though she questioned the abuse and some practices. Until she was going to be forced to remarry after her late husband, the late FLDS "Prophet," died and his son became the "Prophet" and even more fanatical...she could not face another plural marriage.
Risking everything, she escaped with a fellow member, who she later married. Her passion to protect the young women and children still in the FLDS led her to agree to assist and testify for the state of Texas in prosecuting the leaders of the FLDS, including the "Prophet" Warren Jeffs.
I highly recommend this book, though it is difficult to read the accounts of the abuse and unspeakable acts committed against innocent children. It is maddening that the states of Colorado and Arizona refused to prosecute Jeffs and others, so I give kudos to all of Texan officials to work so hard to put these monsters behind bars.

I have such an issue with sheep and people who are unable to think for themselves. Rebecca Musser proves that even with the walls of hell, where everyone around you is following the same destructive path, you can find the power within yourself to break free and become so much more than you had ever intended to be.
The Witness Wore Red is a story about a polygamous cult whose leaders were involved in child marriages. Parts of the story made me so uncomfortable but you need to feel that way when you read a story like this. There are some really messed up people in this world who justify their actions with their religion...You can toss that label around in every generation. This is not a new story...it's a story that needs to end.

“Though bloodlines among the people were usually considered in regard to marriage, if the Prophet directed it, it was believed God would honor the union. Biological and scientific issues would not come to pass as long as the couple had “enough faith.”
QUICK RECAP 🖊️
Rebecca rehashes her life growing up and escaping FLDS and the part she took in helping bring some big names to justice.
FINAL THOUGHTS 💭
It took me almost all month to read this book, there’s times where I had to leave it for a couple days at a time. Rebecca’s story is heartbreaking and disturbing but so inspirational seeing her escape what was her reality for so so long.
