Hmmmm..... I guess the fact I didn’t massively enjoy this one when everyone else has given it rave reviews is another thing I love about reading - we are all different!
The setting of the story of WW2 from an Italian perspective was refreshing but to me this read very much like a YA novel and the dialogue was simplistic and the prose lacking.
I really prefer more of a literary angle to my historical fiction....I loved the aftermath section however & it was fascinating to learn how Pino and all the other cast lived post the war & the obvious impact it had on them.
2.5 stars for the writing 3 stars for the new perspective.
