The fact that this is listed as “non-fiction” in StoryGraph is INSANE. It’s historical fiction based on research, at its most optimistic.
I picked this up at the library the other day, having just finished [b:The Heretic Queen|2897258|The Heretic Queen|Michelle Moran|http://photo.goodreads.com/books/1267353890s/2897258.jpg|2923667] and about to read [b:Nefertiti|481446|Nefertiti|Michelle Moran|http://photo.goodreads.com/books/1175116839s/481446.jpg|2897082]. This was an impulse selection. I read the reviews on Goodreads and almost decided not to read the book. I'm almost finished it and all of the reviews are correct - it's not worth your time.

As someone fascinated by Egyptology, this book made the history very accessible. I also liked how Patterson described how this book came to be. I listened to this book in one shot while driving. It kept my attention and kept me awake!
I listened to this book while I built the lego pyramid. I figured it would be a good listen while I build. Boy was I wrong. The fact that this is listed as non fiction is wild to me. If you look at this as historical fiction and that most of it is inaccurate or extremely embellished; it’s not that bad. I did enjoy hearing about Howard Carter and his time exploring and discovering King Tut. There were just some parts where I audible snorted or laughed because it was just so outlandish. Definitely more in regard to the parts from King Tuts point of view and time.

This book was interesting. Not sure how much is true, but I found it interesting to get a glimpse into life back then.

I enjoyed reading this book a great deal; and in fact came as close to reading it cover to cover as I have any book. It presents parallel stories of last years of Tukankhamen's life and that of Howard Carter's discovery of his tomb 3,000 years later.
I'd highly recommend it to anyone interested in those topics.

Would have given it 4 stars if it didnt have the unnecessary explicit sex and rape, they didnt add to the story. Both sex and rape can be implied without the explicit details
