What did I learn from this book? That it's really sad to become a fattie if you have an unexplained autoimmune disease that causes you to gain weight no matter what you eat, and you have nothing in common nor nothing to learn from the other fatties, the ones who got that way by eating too much.

This is one of those books where the author clearly was trying to make some big statement through an unreliable narrator, except she wasn't talented enough to pull it off and just ended up sending really questionable and offensive messages to the likely readership.

The ‘It’ girl: smart, talented, funny, beautiful, and skinny. Lara Ardeche; her high school’s ‘it’ girl, homecoming queen, and beauty pageant winner, becomes distraught when she discovers she is gaining weight. Lara’s mother enforces more strict diet and more rigorous workout schedule for her daughter. Despite their desperate attempts, Lara quickly gains weight and is ‘inflated’ to over two hundred pounds! Under tremendous pressure Lara makes a volatile decision, to quit eating. “Yes. That was what I would do. I’d just stop eating. One of two things would happen. I would get thin again. Or I would die. Either way, I would win.” (Cherie Bennett). What does this mean for our ‘it’ girl?

I remember loving this book as a teenager.

Looking at it now though it probably wouldn't go over quite as well in modern society.

The whole story just revolved around her getting fat. There was nothing I felt to be gained by reading this. the whole time, when her parents and other people tried to talk about their problems, she would shut them up and whine about hers. i suppose at the end, they tried to make it seem like she was happy the way she was, but that's hard to believe.. Urgh really did not like this book.

I read this book a long time ago, when i was way too young. And its still stucked with me, im sure the vision of the book in my head is a lot better thst is was (written wise). But all i know is i was -am- a fat girl, and this might have been the start to my depression. So props.

I read this years ago and it is still undoubtedly the worst book I have ever read.
