I had to go back and add another star after simmering with this book for a little bit! I couldn’t put this book down. I was so intrigued and disturbed and I wouldn’t have it any other way. I can’t wait to recommend this to everyone!

CW / TW that isnt in Storygraph list : Descriptive scene of a minor engaging in sexual behavior

I honestly don't know how to rate this. I loved the characters and found myself connecting to them somehow, finding the whole
rebirthing
thing to be strangely therapeutic in a sense. However, the complete lack of respect Angel shows at the end for Shyla made me frown, despite knowing it was not out of character. As well, the n word having made an appearance twice was also very offputting. It was so out of place, I can't imagine why Ralston chose to add it in the first place. It's a shame, as it was a very lovely story otherwise.

This was truly one demented, excessively gory and odious, yet unique book. I don't think I'll ever be able to read this book again. I really enjoyed it, i think. 😅 I like to think i have a pretty strong stomach. I've seen many a thing in my life, but NEVER before has a book made me so nauseated that I physically turned the book from my face and looked away from it to process and not vomit on my book and bed 🤢... but just like true horror, it drew me back in.

This was a "read at your own pace" buddy read, with three IG friends. We shall see what they think as well!!

Just don’t read this. It’s pure garbage. It’s an insult to the genre to call this horror.

Let’s start with my biggest gripe—this white author uses the n word twice. The book is not about racism and the word is used as throwaway derogatory remarks. Unnecessary and unacceptable.

The gore and the horror of this book mostly involves the female anatomy in ways that are completely not possible in real life. Maybe I’m foolish but I need a level of realism in my horror stories. Another reviewer wrote that it was “so far fetched it’s comical” and I agree.

Many of the stories are told from the female perspective and holy shit I’m so tired of extreme horror authors who CANNOT write good female characters AT ALL.

The stories were gross, as promised, but that’s about all there was going for it. The only reason I finished the book is because it’s extremely short and I wanted to give a fair review.
