If I am being completely honest, I don't know how I feel about this book. I did enjoy it, mostly towards the last 200 pages. This is definitely unlike any other book I have ever read. It was very interesting and strange and brought up many emotions in me. I wish so much of the book wasn't on the journey on the planet. I felt like it was very drawn out and I found myself getting bored of it. This was a very emotional read with alot of plot twists I never saw coming. Like I said, I am not sure how I actually feel about it but I would recommend it because it is so different and unlike anything I have ever read.
Well worth a read. Great story, good characters and solid world building, all put together with plenty of page turners to keep me involved.
Great for the YA audience.
Heading for Book 2.

So I just finished this, and I am IN LOVE! I'm not often a big fan of the Sci-Fi, not for any particular reason, apart from not getting into them for any particular reason. I'm more Fantasy-prone. I love The Lunar Chronicles by Marissa Meyer, and after hearing so much about These Broken Stars, I decided to go for it! And my gawd! The cover is B-E-A-UTIFUL!
1) I definitely got the Titanic references, and I loved how some were more obvious and some were more subtle, like the naming of the ship (Titanic:Icarus....WHY WOULD YOU NAME A SHIP AFTER THE GREEK MYTH WHERE THE GUY FLIES TOO CLOSE TO THE SUN AND PLUMMETS TO HIS DEATH??); Rose:Lilac, Jack the Painter:Tarver the Poet, etc.
2) Right when I thought I knew what was happening, I was thrown for a loop. I've inherited my father's ability to figure out the 'Who Dunnit' of cop procedurals and novels alike, and I really enjoyed how I was proven right (to an extent) and then that theory flipping EXPLODED and RAN for IT!
3) I loved the writing and the set-up. I'm not usually a fan of dual POVs (TLC and GOT are exceptions, but after Allegiant, I'm very suspicious of dual POVs as a general rule). I liked the pacing and how the variation kept you turning the pages without realizing how far you were getting. In addition, I liked the little tidbits of the interrogation thrown in, especially when what was "revealed" during the interview didn't necessarily match up to what was really going on.
4) I'm curious as to what's next. This could easily be a standalone, and a good one, but there's a sequel. I want to know where else this story is going, and I want to keep in touch with Lilac and Tarver. I'm just...curious.
Overall, I really loved this book. It was exactly what I needed to get me out of this reading slump that has been induced equally through an overflow of school textbooks and a thoroughly depressing Pulitzer Prize Winner (I'm looking at you, Goldfinch). 5/5 stars.

I checked this out because I liked the cover, but it turns out there's a page-turner of a story in here. Yeah, and a romance too.

These Broken Stars is easily one of 2013’s most hyped books. All of my favorite bloggers are enamored with it. It was very overwhelming, I didn’t know what to expect since I’m not a huge fan of Science Fiction and Dystopian books. It’s not really my genre, but the moment I started reading it, I knew it was going to end well for me.
These Broken Stars follows the story of Lilac LaRoux, the daughter of the richest man in the universe, and Tarver Merendsen, a young soldier. Their misery begins when the Icarus that they were flying crashed and they landed on the nearest planet. And they seem to be alone. They must fend for themselves and find a rescue team.
Lilac and Tarver are worlds apart. They don’t belong in the same social clique. From the moment of their first interaction, you could really feel their palpable chemistry. Lilac has this bratty exterior that she uses as a facade to push out of her life to protect them from her father’s wrath and that’s what she’s doing to repel Tarver. Tarver is a soldier, so he knows a lot of ways to survive in a vast land, he’s responsible, and may come off as stoic, but he knows what he’s doing.
These Broken Stars is told from Lilac and Tarver’s POVs. There’s a distinction between their chapters. It was great and I really like the interview interludes in every chapter. The whole book is poignant, you can really see where they are coming from. The humor and the banter between Lilac and Tarver is one of the best thing about the novel. The romance is so beautiful, It was well written. It will make you swoon.
These Broken Stars is a sensational book. Perfect for The Hunger Games & Shatter Me fans.

-I definitely wouldn't believe if you told me that I'd love this book this much. I just bought it because I wondered why so many people were reading it, and I got a little bit interested in the plot. But that was just it. And the book was was everything I'd expected and more. I just wanted to see them in their own enviroment a little bit more, just to compare with what's next. Except that, I love everything, them hating each other, going "fuck you" later discovering each other and going "fuck me". I think I love those kind of relationships. Whispers were especially good, they scared me a little but what happened to them terrified me. Last of all, I LOVED the cover. Blue and green were so good together. Whenever the book mentions the green dress, I just looked at the cover and sighed. It was an amazing book.
