This book is not for the faint of heart. I was not expecting this kind of gore when I choose this read. I am not disappointed!

I really enjoyed this story: so full of twist and turns, strong and badass female characters and overall scary. Everything that I could ask in a good book.

Is really interesting to see how the girls see this "new world": once schoolmates become completely strangers and the "every man for himself" mentality kicks in, as soon as the disease (and the shortage of food) spreads around. In the end, the ties of love and friendship are bigger than everything else. And that's the big, an important, message this book provides.

Loved it!

I was first drawn in by the cover, then decided to read it as my third book of 1000 doors (the print was something about a pandemic). i didn’t know what to expect but I loved it, all up until the ending. i felt like I’d got near the end and the last few pages had been ripped out, even for an open ending it left me so confused, especially knowing there won’t be a sequel. 3.75 stars because I loved the rest of it and it was hella gay

I'm not gonna be adding much to my review that hasn't already been said.

The good:

Very atmospheric. I could see the school, the girls, the terror so clearly. I loved the queerness, I loved the mystery, the hopelessness.

I liked how different Hatty's and Byatt's POVs were.

The iffy:

That ending. I'm so unsatisfied! We ~kind of~ get a clue as to what the Tox is, but no solution, no conclusion, no big reveal. The whole time I was waiting for the shoe to drop - the teachers are involved?? The Tox is manmade?? It's spread beyond the borders of the school?? There IS no world outside the borders?? But nothing. I was left feeling like I'd wasted my time with this one. Definitely not the horror it's labelled as.

Overall, not a book I'd recommend but not awful either. Just incomplete. 2.5 stars.
