Definitely not perfect, had some plot holes and questions remained unanswered. But still really enjoyable, such a fresh story and not something that has been done 1000 times before.

The ending was bad, I wish the body horror elements went further, I wish the government corruption elements went further, generally I think the book would be improved if it wasn't YA and didn't have to fit itself within the guidelines of what is appropriate. This also goes for this authors other book, Kill Creatures.

well, it definitely turned out better than what i originally thought it might end up being. the first act seems to be a bit too long for its own good, and i wish we'd gotten to focus more on the overall dynamic of the entirety of raxter together. i also wish we'd gotten more of byatt, because i was just left with so many questions about her past towards the end, and i did enjoy reading her POV a lot because i hoped we'd arrive at some resolution. i also wish the romance was given more time, but that's a story for another day. what i did love: certain metaphors and quotes in this book are really powerful, when they're not redundant. the solidarity the trio feels is palpable and heartwarming, especially because it isn't all roses. where the introspection was handled well, it was beautiful to witness, and the horror aspects themselves were combined well with the setting itself. the feminist undertones were placed wonderfully, and it's visible that power really wanted to make those points through her story. i'm not sure how i feel about the ending or the idea of a next book, but we'll just have to see.

I felt that there several plot holes that I just couldn’t get past. Although the story itself is full of adventure and tension, I felt bored while reading it. It picked up towards the end, but then didn’t really have a solid ending.

⭐️⭐️⭐️.5

After all of the hype I’ve heard about this I was kind of expecting a little more from it in all honesty. However, I loved the concept, the characters and the setting. I was just looking for an ending with a little more of a scare factor. Would definitely recommend if you enjoy an apocalyptic kind of story though!
