i devoured this book, the setting and the characters and the romance were fantastic. the plot was not everything i hoped it would be, but it doesn't detract too much from the enjoyment of the book overall. mysteries are hard and i can forgive a less-than-satisfying ending when the writing is as magical as this.

4.5/5 stars. This book almost had it all, but the rapidly growing amount of unanswered questions the more lore got introduced together with a rushed ending kinda messed up my final thoughts on the whole picture

But oh my God, this book was one big fanservice for me. A big mystery, apocalyptic settings, abandoned locations taken up by nature, unknown virus lurking and possessing everything on its way. and AND, FINALLY, MC that for once can think straight and has reasonable motives for a girl her age?? YES PLEASE

This book was hella gory to read and I’m glad it was cause it added so much to the scale of how fucked up everything was (it also was hella dramatic, but I was reading the minds of teenagers the whole time so I kinda get it)

And it also had Promised Neverland vibes…. What else do you need from a book

This was just fine, nothing more, nothing less

When I read the Grace Year and didn’t like it, I looked for one star reviews on goodreads. It’s sort of what I always do when I don’t like a book, who knows why. Anyways, one of the reviews said to read this instead, and I can see how they’re similar (groups of late teen girls in a life and death struggle) but I don’t know if I’d compare them any more than that. This was better than Grace Year. And it was VERY similar to that horrible Annihilation trilogy but it was waaaay better than that. Some of the stuff with the bodies straight up SCARED me- like that deep uncomfortable horror- but it was extremely well written and it had a satisfying ending while still leaving it wide open for what I’m assuming is the sequel. I enjoyed this but I don’t know who I’d recommend it to

A good 3.5!

Wilder Girls was not what I expected.
The premise of this story is a group of girls in quarantine on Raxter. Raxter is a school for girls that contract something that makes them other. Something that makes the animals of the island other. The way that Rory Power wrote with was incredible. I have never read anything like this before, but I am so glad I finally got to it! There were parts that just about killed me. Then when Hetty and Reese sneak out... Man. I was holding my breath the whole time!
All in all this was a great book! Someones comment called it a Feminist horror story and they were dead on.
