I personally find that when books are added to a series as a prequel they can be pretty hit or miss. Especially since by that point, as a reader you usually already know the ultimate ending. With Saint though, I really enjoyed this! In general Saint is such an interesting character that it was exciting to see where he essentially got his start. I feel like this book made me want to root for him. Outside of Fable this has become one of my favorite books from the series. If your a fan of the original duology I recommend picking this up. I also think this book has helped get me out of my reading slump a bit more!

I read Fable and Namesake last year, but I actually bought Saint before I read Namesake. I just knew the covers looked cool together and I wanted the set complete. Saint is The World of The Narrows Book 0, a prequel to Fable because it is about her parents. In my opinion, this book is meant to be read after reading Fable and Namesake. I enjoyed getting to see the history of Fable's parents and understanding Saint's background. However, the plot just wasn't exciting enough for me in the first half of the book. Eventually, it picked up and I was interested to see how things fell into place. Maybe I should have read it closer to the other two books, when I was still in my pirate era. I really love Saint as a character but I needed more depth and romance in the story. This is a YA series, so I get that this is a me problem, not a problem with the book. I think this is a great series for someone looking for pirate adventures, strong female characters, and a tad of romance.

So Holland sucks and this book was just as boring as the other two. I can't reconcile the Saint in the book with the Saint from the original duology. They are just not the same person. I didn't find getting to know Isolde interesting, but at least they could pronounce the name correctly this time.
Spoiler for previous books:
West being Henricks son is fun. Making Oskar or whatever his cousin or something? I dont remember enough about the character is the last book (even though I read it TWO DAYS AGO) to know. All i know is one of them was a member of that family and I guess so is West.

This was really good. I would say the only thing I didn't like was that it was written with alternating POVs, told in first person. That can really get confusing for me because I forget which character I'm reading, and then have to go back and check the chapter heading.
