If you want me to read your book, don't use two similes comparing people/groups to "retarded children" in the first fifteen pages. I love the Cassie Palmer series, but this one's going back whence it came.
How could I forget how awesome this series is?! I'd completely forgotten what the book was about, so I read it with the same heart-pounding enthusiasm as I did the first time. Sometimes having a lousy memory is a perk.
I have to admit, when I first saw the book I made the ultimate no-no.. I judged the book by it's cover. I immediately thought it was gonna be some wannabe buffy thing with way too much leather and bad lines. But I can happily say I was badly mistaken.
Yes the main character is a badass evil-butt-woopin' hottie who gets herself in to a lot of trouble, but it's not in the bad-tv kinda way.
The plot is exiting and twisting, the characters deep and down to earth so you can actually relate to them. But first and foremost the book is incredible well written. Karen Chance really knows how to capture the reader so you just don't wanna put the book down.
It's got action, sex and a story you believe. All I can say is: READ IT!

I enjoyed Midnight's Daughter and Dory was great but I didn't really think Mircea's reasoning for not killing Drac last time made any sort of sense.
Also it might just be me but I really think that this book would be better if it was lighter and less complicated, Karen Chance writes really interesting and funny characters but I found myself getting confused because so much was going on at once, the fey rules for heirs just seemed odd and the darker elements seemed a bit forced and didn't add much to the story in my opinion.

It took me a long time to begin this series (even if Karen Chance is one of my favorite authors) but ultimately I was far from disappointement !!
Although Cassandra remains my favorite character(for now), I totally loved Dory, her deranged humor, her talent to annoy people and her really weird relationship:
- with Louis-César (well THE super sexy Frenchie)
I loved their small arguments, how Dory irritates him most of the time (and the rest of the time how they fit "really" well together ...) OK his tortured side bothers me a bit but I like him anyway.
- with her "family"
We discover a lot about "Daddy" Mircea (it's just so weird to see him as a father when we were accustomed to see as THE sexy and powerful vamp), far more than in Cassie's books (which shows by the way that he doesn't deserve her ! He doesn't even told her about Dory ! I mean, she is his daughter for cookies sake!! Cassie knows more things about Pritkins and she met him almost recently ... And Pritkins !! He 's just sooo ... Well anyway I digress)
I liked Uncle Drac'(although I would have preferred him to appear longer) and I found cute the little eccentric side of 'Du (especially with the "special" dishes of Chief)
- with Caedmon.
I would never have guessed who he really was !! While his son and Claire didn't make me a great impression, on the other hand him ... I love him =) I can't wait to see him again ><
- with Marlowe.
I've always been a fan of Kit so it is always a pleasure to see a little more often (and all nerves because of Dory)
-with all the hoodlums in the area (trolls, human and whoever together)
I particularly liked the mini rebellion against those who had killed the husband of Olga.
To be short : A book to read absolutly, in parallel with Chance's other serie and I hope to have the next book soon !
