I have been getting these books out of the library, but now I just really wish I had bought them because the plot is getting much more elaborate and I wish I could go back easily and reread certain parts.
The continuing adventures of two siblings in a magical world. We get much more of Navin's adventures in this one, but we do still follow Emily a little to find out a little more about The Voice. We also get a little more character development for the Elf Prince. Still enjoying this mid-grade series.
Okay! So, I'mma stop here. I don't think I'll be continuing this series. There were too many characters, and everything is just kinda jumbled up altogether. I just lost interest in finding out what's going to happen. The story has been dragging on for too long. One obstacle after another, and it doesn't feel realistic at all. At this point, I don't even know what they were doing, honestly.
But the main reason I don't really love the story is that the main character and her mother are really really annoying. I felt like I didn't know Emily. Sometimes, she's headstrong, brave and smart, and sometimes she's just dumb. And some scenes are just so repitititive. How many times does Emily have to surrender because her friends/families are hold hostages? So Many! I feel like people can just leave her alone so we don't have to feel that drama. And Her mother is like a typical mother who always worry and think a " dangerous place " as a safety place. Then, when it is finally revealed that that place is dangerous, she'd say sorry and blah blah. I don't like it at all.
And another complaint I have is that whenever the characters almost got killed, another new character will be added in order to save them! I don't like it at all. And there are so many characters that I don't even remember who is who anymore. And Now I don't even care.
Nonetheless, There are still some adorable characters, like Miskit and the Elf prince, but the lack of them makes me care less about them. Also love the artwork for places!! And also the map! It really helps!
So yeah, i guess this is it!
Still enjoyable otherwise. It's probably because I'm too old for this.

Book 6 now and Kibuishi is still introducing at least a handful of new characters in every book. This might be okay if he were able to differentiate individuals a bit better--at first glance, I would recommend giving different styles of bangs instead of the same choppy bangs that go on just about every human, elf, and sometimes animal.
Many times in this book I confused a background character for one of the main characters or a secondary character for the main character. Like, "wait, why does he suddenly have red-ringed eyes? Did he become possessed? Did I miss that in an illustration? A quick review of the past few pages and I would realize that was just a background character.
Other than same-face-itis going on, it's still a very exciting story. I started reading the series when it first came out so when a character from the first or second book resurfaces in the fifth or sixth book, I really only recognize them because of the lead character's reaction to their appearance. "Oh, yeah, I guess I'm supposed to remember this person for some reason..."
I wonder if I read all the books at once, if I'd have this problem. :\

Boy, this book was intense and nail-biting from almost the first page to the last. Emily and Navin have changed a lot over the past six books, and this book really highlights that. I can't wait to see what is in store in the next two books. YA readers in my life are going to enjoy this one.

While the story is interesting and the robot characters are whimsical and quite adorable, it is again the stunning artwork that is the best feature of this series.
The use of colour and light and shade in every illustration really sets the atmosphere for the story.
The double page spread of the city of Lucien is just brilliant.

A great middle-grade fantasy graphic novel series with strong characters and lovely artwork.
The thrilling sixth installment in the "Amulet" series!
I really enjoyed "Escape from Lucien." The stakes are really high in this one, which made this book much more nerve racking than the previous books. Also, Navin's story finally takes center stage, which is something I have been waiting quite some time for. I like Navin more than I like Emily, so it was refreshing to follow his perspective for the majority of this book.
Emily's perspective throughout this novel was also pretty interesting though. Emily, along with the other stonekeepers, investigate the mysterious Voice that inhabits their stones and the results leave the reader with some intriguing story bits.
Overall, "Escape from Lucien" was another stellar addition to the "Amulet" world. I'm nearing the end of this series, so I'm interested to see how Kibuishi wraps it up in the next couple of books.
