I felt like The Thief got lost between being a literary novel and a thriller, and unfortunately failed to give me what I was looking for from either category.

I wish I had enjoyed it more, but I felt like I was being fed cliche after cliche. On top of that, the way all the women characters were written left a bad taste in my mouth that I couldn't shake. If you like action movies about brooding men who live in miserable worlds where everything and everyone is awful, but with a hint of a literary edge, this might fit your tastes!

There were some sweet moments between the main character and a child, some of the action scenes were decent, and some of the cliches were done well enough that it wasn't a thoroughly bad experience for me. Hesitant rating somewhere between 2 and 3 stars.

It's a smooth and fast read. Wasn't as exciting as I thought it would be, more noir-like and mellow. Still a good read, although I was expecting a crime thriller so that's on me. I enjoyed it.

I start reading this book because one of my colleague who went to Paris was pick-pocketed. I'm amazed how can someone (literally) do this very easily! But then I realize that the situation must happen in the area where there're so many people (very big crowded)

Seems like everyone gets the noir atmosphere reading it. I also had the same feeling, as if it's raining and happen in early at night when the protagonist do his job. Unfortunately, the ending doesn't meet my expectation, but it's good in its way.
Can't wait to discover what the writer (Nakamura Fuminori) will offer us in his previous work.

Like : fate and control, Do we really choose our fate?
Rate : unstoppable reading
