I listened to the audiobook version read by Xe Sands.  I didn't mind her as a narrator, but I had to listen to this book at 1.25x speed because it felt slow and the breaks were quite long.  The premise of this book is really cool and I think executed quite well.  We learn a lot about Evelyn and what in her past has made her the way she is.  I was personally annoyed by her every now and then but I understand the circumstances.  Each time I thought, "where is this story going? there's a decent amount of time left." I was hit with another issue they have to overcome.  It was slow for me a few times but it definitely was interesting.  The ending was alright, but I'm not sure how to make it better.  This isn't something I would've picked up on my own but a co-worker suggested it and I'm glad I gave it a shot.  I could see this becoming a movie.

sometimes it’s okay to read books for the vibe and not now what the fuck is going on.

Made it through chapter 9 with my eyeballs and had to pause for anxiety reasons but I wanted to finish because it’s SO GOOD. Tried it on audio and got through another chapter but it’s just too dark and heavy for me right now. Might give it another try at another time because I love Sarah Gailey and the premise is fascinating and the writing is excellent and the audio is entertaining; I just think I need to be in the right mindset for the content.

I loved this book, I could barely put it down. It's so rare to have a female protagonist written like Evelyn; being in her head, you really get a sense of who she is and how she became that way. She is clinical and calculating in a way that is usually reserved for male characters and I found her very refreshing. The prose are vivid yet concise, making the story a joy to read despite being deeply disturbing.

Dark and twisty. Realistically terrifying. Evelyn is a scientist who clones people for singular tasks. Her ex-husband stole her work in order to create his perfect wife. So, what happens when the illegal clone wife kills him?

Not a book I think I could re-read without the thrill of discovery. Made me question what it means to be human.
