Okay. You know I love fake-relationship tropes. And this was probably one of my faves, right up there with To All The Boys I've Loved Before by Jenny Han. I was a little skeptical at first because it seemed like such a short time period between Lisa and Jeff ending their relationship and when Krzys and Lisa get married, but it made it a whirlwind romance and I ate up every second of it.
Lisa was a sweet character and I liked her as a main character. Her decision to marry Krzys might have been irrational and quick, but it made sense to me. For $25,000, I would have done the same thing. I feel like I wanted them to have more time together before the wedding instead of the quick passing we got of them being at the bookstore together.
I liked how supportive their relationship was. Krzys made Lisa feel like she was special and could do anything -- he believed in her dreams. I know we didn't see much of Jeff and what his and Lisa's relationship actually entailed, but from Lisa's descriptions, Jeff was never that supportive of her dreams. He seemed pretty selfish whereas Krzys gave Lisa choices about their relationship left and right. It was really nice to see that in here.
I feel like I needed more though. I would have liked to see the actual immigration interview and more of the two of them fumbling around how to be together when they hardly knew one another. And maybe more of meeting their families and trying to explain the situation. As well, I think Lisa telling Jeff the truth was a stupid decision that could bite her in the ass? But honestly, this one was really good. I really enjoyed it!
Overall: 3.5/5 stars. This was a fun, fast-paced read but I would have liked a bit more detail and time with the characters to get to know them.
