A wonderfully spicy fairy tale retelling with an awesome twist. This is one of those books you want to read alone, maybe with a fan going and a tall, cold drink of water nearby. Fury and Pennza certainly know how to bring the heat! Ryder and Wotan were so different yet so perfect for each other - even if they don't want to see it at first (this is an enemies to lovers romance, after all). I love the power dynamics at play, and the introduction of witches and magic to the story. This isn't a light-hearted retelling of a classic tale, it's dark, gritty, sexy, and will get your heart racing for more than one reason. I'm dying to see what book two has in store!
Wotan & Ryder
Rating: 4.1 ⭐
- Red Riding Hood Retelling
- Fated Mates (MM)
- Dark Romance
- Paranormal
- Fortune Teller (Witch) / Master of the Hunt
- Chasing and Hunting
This is the first book of this series that does fantasy retellings. They are good at giving a nod to the originals without copying their formats word for word. Ryder is a survivor and stronger than he gives himself credit for. For the witch's in his bloodline, the power is passed down to the females only but he manages to have the power of a "Cassandra" like his mother. As a "Cassandra" he can see into people's futures so he makes his living by being a fortune teller in the Free Zone. He has an absolutely horrible grandmother, that you just have to read about to understand. Ryder's grandmother lives in 'the Wood', which is part of Wotan's territory. She has summoned him but didn't explain why, forcing Ryder to have to seek permission to enter into Wotan's territory to cross. Wotan is a creature from the Veil that has become one of the syndicate leaders, the Earth Syndicate. He is Master of the Hunt and runs club Cauchemar, where humans and monsters indulge themselves in all manners of vices. Wotan is described as the nightmares incarnate. He has no real body or form but his glamour is a mixture of skins from humans and monsters whose souls he has consumed over the years. No one crosses his borders without his permission or they will be hunted and killed. After Ryder is denied passage, he decides to take his chances at crossing anyways. Of course, he is caught and brought back to Wotan for punishment. What they both are unprepared for is how they react to each other and how punishment turns into pleasure instead.
I liked the connection they had even when they questioned each others real intentions. There was steam, possessiveness, size difference, vampires, witches, magic and murder. It's an entertaining read and I'm looking forward to reading Tower's (Rune) book next. He's a badass in this book but you know it's all a front for his disguise, so I know in his book he will be a broken character that needs freedom, support and to be cherished.

This was such a quick and fun read. It was a little dark, which was mostly reflected in the spicy scenes, but it wasn't super crazy. This story completely sucked me in, and I was here for every spicy tidbit. And this book did have some spiiiice! I absolutely loved Wotan and Ryder together. I'm always down for the good ol' grumpy/sunshine trope! I am a fan of fairytale retellings, and I would say this was a unique one, which can be hard to do! The reason I didn't give this book 5 stars was because it was lacking a couple of things. First, I think it needed a bit more relationship development. I loved what it had, and it kept me turning the pages, but I think things came to head too quickly and abruptly--it didn't make as much sense. Second, I wanted there to be a bit more of a point to this story. I think the bit of intrigue that was there was nice....but it definitely could have been developed and executed better. That being said, I really enjoyed this book. It was fast-paced, pretty straightforward, spicy, and had a lovely and fun banter. If you want fast, fun, and uncomplicated, this book is for you!

Was this deep? No
It was hot AF tho!
The world building is actually pretty good , and could have been great with more details.

Smutastico ... sex in spades.
It was fun, even if there wasn't much of a plot. But despite the strong focus on the sex scenes, the author also manages to create a dark dystopian atmosphere and open the gates to an interesting new world.
For a demanding fanatsy reader, this book is perhaps too shallow and not exactly innovative. It has good elements, but unfortunately does not go into depth. Without spoiling, the magic that is clearly part of the story is used rather poorly, especially at the end, which doesn't make much sense.
Anyway, I wasn't expecting any depth from the book, I'm just here for the deliciously filthy scenes.
And yes, this belongs in the category of „don't read in public“ and „have a shower ready for afterwards“.
All the sex scenes are a mixture of brutality, high-kink and a touch of romance or tenderness.
Wotan is a beast, not just physically, he is not a nice character and kills everything that gets in his way.
With the exception of a small witch, well not so small ... the proportions of the two were not quite clear to me, but many times my mind was completely occupied with other things.
Anyway, Ryder is a total pain slut. My precious ... It's been a while since I had the chance to savor such delicious scenes.
Exposed. He’s so fucking exposed like this. Arms bound behind his back, his chest heaving as his most intimate parts dangle between his thighs. His cock springs out from a nestle of auburn curls, precum already leaking from the tip. Beings may say a variety of things here in my dungeon, but the body doesn’t lie. Below his hard length, his balls are pulled tightly to his body. He’s horny as fuck, but terrified.
Perfect.

Wow, what a steamy adult retelling of this fairytale! Fan myself with all the possessive vibes! Ryder is a witch who needs to get through Wotan's territory and well no one gets past Wotan! Let's just say that Ryder gets through to Wotan in ways Wotan was not expecting! Wotan nay be taking what he wants, which is Ryder, but he is doing it a very protective and possessive way! Ryder cannot deny he loves it! Quick, spicy sweet tale! I cannot wait for more of these!

Witches, Monsters, and humans OH MY!
This was a brilliant MM romance retelling of little red riding hood. The wolf isn't the big bad, but I am still in love with the dark and broody big bad of this story.
There's witches, seers (cassandras), monsters, and night clubs.
It's a slow start, but so worth it for the spice and story line.

Things to See:
- Age Gap
- Monsters
- Enemies to Lovers
- Retelling
- BDSM
- primal (chasing and hunting)
❝I want your hands clawing at the earth as I take you. I want you howling with pleasure as the moon shines down on us. I want you here, in my kingdom❞
