The United States really treats people like shit sometimes. You think everyone here has rights? Not so much. Anger inducing, interesting and sad.

I've been trying to put my thoughts into words for this book. It’s been days since I finished it, yet I still find myself reflecting on the story. I simply cannot wrap my head around the cruelty that Mansoor endured for 14 years.
The book begins in the first few days of Mansoor’s detainment and interrogation. Throughout the story, we witness his unwavering hope and humanity, even in the face of pure evil. Despite the brutality and pain, he remained steadfast in his faith, which is truly commendable. He made the best of his circumstances—learning from respected elders and friends, grieving over the unjust treatment of his fellow brothers, and finding strength in the smallest moments.
At its core, this book is deeply depressing, tragic, and painful to read. Yet, amidst the brutality, Mansoor managed to make me laugh with his humor and the occasional lighthearted incidents, offering moments of relief after pages of harrowing abuse.
His writing is simple yet deeply impactful—it hit me like a gut punch, bringing me to tears many times. The story flows smoothly and is easy to follow, but I had to take frequent breaks just to process the sheer weight of it all. I felt sadness, anger, and disgust toward every single perpetrator. Too many innocent people have had their lives stolen, forced to waste away in prison for crimes they did not commit.
This is, without a doubt, a book I will recommend to everyone for the rest of my life. It’s a story I will never, ever stop thinking about.
