i read this quite quickly, but i have some issues with it.
1) This book suffers from boring main character syndrome. I was far more interested in the side characters than the main. Theoretically, she should have been interesting, but something about her internal monologue wasn't hitting right.
2) This book is being hailed as a feminist masterpiece, but nothing that its putting forward is particularly groundbreaking. In fact, I would say that this is quite a shallow book that comes across quite a few interesting ideas but then stops exploring them at the junctions where it might get more interesting and more in depth.

I respect a book that knows when the story it wants to tell is over and ends, rather than dragging on for another 100 pages. That being said, I do wish there was a bit more resolution to some major relationships. The ending was still satisfying but not so much so that I could close the book and say anything other than “huh. Okay, then. Good for her?”

Really interesting premise, that was alternative reality historical fiction but still felt like it absolutely could have been reality based on treatment of marginated groups and fear of others and the unknown that our society has today.
My only complaint is I wish it felt more fast paced. Based on some of what happens it should have been a page turner, but I had to sort of slog through it even though over all I enjoyed it. Possibly it was the writers style.

Stream of consciousness story. I loved the parts that spoke on gender expectations from the Wild West since that’s not a typical perspective. But it wasn’t a super engaging book.
