Based on the true voyage of the Raja bringing female inmates to Australia. This includes the making of the famous Raja Quilt. This book also added a murder mystery and commentary on the crimes women commit. I think I was more interested in the social commentary than the mystery. The big reveal was surprising and overall this was a good read.

Since Hope Adams explores the stories of convict women, there are a lot of interesting discussions around guilt and innocence and about what those terms mean in he light of religion, society and the law. But it also reflects on notions of sacrifice, motherhood, oppression and sexual violence in the mid 19th century UK.
The only thing I didn't love was the ending, which felt, for me, a bit too clean and explanatory. I prefer my endings to be more abrupt and messy. But this is an overall great book and I highly recommend it.
Moderate: Death and Death of parent
Minor: Rape
