i love the cover of this book and i love food and book descriptions of food, but i really don’t have the urge to really read it. life is too short to make myself read a book i don’t really want to read.

Not my style. Too long sentences, too many commas which made it difficult to focus and follow. No real dialogue which irks me.

I wasn't feeling this book AT ALL for the first like 65% of it but I was determined to stick it out, and I'm glad I did because I ended up actually really enjoying it as it went on.

a book about divinity, art, love, and obsession. at times a deliciously sadistic play on class and power (the sensual power of the cook over her patrician “overlords” see: Phantom Thread). also the overbearing psychological intensity of the unreliable, pathetic narrator and his maniacal love for the cheffe’s mind and body never(?) to be requited. furthermore the food!!!! the last scene is spellbinding and sublime. The cheffe escaped samsara i’m happy for her.
