I received this book almost 5 years ago so didn’t remember what it was about when I finally picked it to read.  I was so excited to find out early on that I would be reading about a traveling library in rural Kentucky!  And with it written by Jojo Moyes, I knew I would enjoy it.  And I did.  The setting is beautiful and the strong female characters are greatly entertaining, to say the least.  The main reason I couldn’t give it a 5 is because the final chapter is a little too sappy with its individual closer for all.  Overall though, it was a great read and I recommend it.

LOVED THIS BOOK. Very well written, JoJo’s words take you right into the story. The characters were well thought out and balanced each other well.

2.5 stars.

The first 140 pages were painful to get through. I could not get into it at all and trying to read it was like moving through sludge. Jojo Moyes is not a strong author in my opinion, and I don’t like the prose and the plot was boring to me. This had potential as a concept but I feel like it failed to deliver. The end of the book was quicker to get through but at that point I was so sick of reading it.

There were so many characters with no character development and I seriously could not tell the difference between Kathleen, Sophia, Izzy, and Beth. So many of the characters were so bland and only have one personality trait. Also, I find it hilarious that Margery and Alice both got lucky with being with the most woke Kentucky men in the late 1930s with literally no personalities except for the fact that they are FEMINISTS. Seriously, they are such static love interests, while the Van Cleves are static and generic antagonists. Bad guy bad, good guy good
