The main character gas unbearable self loathing and toxic attitudes towards being alone and expressing emotion omg someone get this child some genuine attention stat. Idea was promising but it bored me and the characterization was all over the place, especially for gramps. Also the time skip section was truly so painfully uninteresting that when I fell asleep as my book ended and I didn’t hear the last 30 min - an hour of it I didn’t replay it before just returning it to the library and calling it a wash

My first Christina Henry novel and wow! This book packed SO much into 301 pages and I read most of them in the course of a single evening! This is a super FAST paced book, without being juvenile or leaving loose ends! The story is fully encompassing and urges you to keep going. I personally did not love the last 30ish pages BUT it did wrap up one last tendril of the story. The climax of the story is extremely well written, well thought out and not rushed through.
I will definitely be reading more of her works!!!

“Listen for me. I am the legend of Sleepy Hollow. I am the Horseman.“

I absolutely love, love, looooove this book! Christina Henry has once again proven why she’s one of the best storytellers or rather re-tellers of known stories. Everyone knows the story of the headless horseman, but this genius reinterpretation shines with brilliant twists and a sequel as to how the story could have possibly continued after Washington Irving’s last words were written. Our main character is Bente, aka Ben. The grandchild of the famous Brom Bones and Katrina. After years and years of peace, the headless horseman has returned to Sleepy Hollow…something dark is lurking in the woods and it’s killing children. But why now and has the headless horseman truly returned or is something/someone far more sinister hiding in the shadows? I loved the entire story throughout and though the ending was heavily foreshadowed, I still couldn’t hide a giant smile once it finally happened.

I started it yesterday and didn’t stop it until I finished it today! That speaks highly of this book. It was slightly creepy but I felt proud I could handle it.

I love the re-telling and aspect of being who you are. I fell in love with all the characters and loved to hate the villains. You can’t ask for more than that. Definitely a top contender, excellent book. Read it!

The first 3/4 of the book are fantastic, the last part was just ok. I am not a fan of large time skips in order to wrap things up. Also suffers from too many bad guys, (I never thought I would complain about that) and because of that it gets a bit muddled and confused.
