I love the Narnia books. I read them to my older kids, and now I and reading them to my younger kids. The boxed set we have has the Magician's Nephew as the first book. I think would would read it last if I ever read the series to kids again. Lewis wrote it last, and there are things in it that are definitely looking back to the other books. I only think that it is listed as the first book because it is set chronologically before the other books, but lets face it chronology isn't everything, and often nothing, in story telling.

Crazy how great this one actually is compared to Horse. The first 2/3rds are actually a really fun adventure book with really engaging characters before it becomes a very on the nose allegory again but it’s sweet and fun and innocent

a trip down memory lane. you can tell this book was written after the second book in the series (chronologically) and it just makes the storytelling sort of odd. i also noticed the obvious religious allegories that i skimmed over when i was a kid. i feel like some of them actually took away from the story and were obviously there just for the sake of mirroring a biblical story. i surely hope i enjoy my re-read of the rest of this series far more than this one. first half of this book is 5/5 and the last half brings it waaaaaay down for me.
