So many Ann/es (and not always referring to the right one—whoops)! But what a fascinating dive into the archival record of a woman who was both ahead of and very much a product of her time.

Pleasantly surprised by how accurate the TV series turns out to have portrayed the real Anne Lister. By focusing on the part of Anne’s life that the first season portrays, this is a wonderful introduction to the real Anne before continuing with other biographies that tell more about the parts of her life that weren’t portrayed on screen.

Fun little peak into Anne Lister’s life. Doesn’t add much beyond the narrative of the show. It was nice to see quotes from the diaries to appreciate Lister’s voice and eccentricities. Also complicates her narrative with politics, which I think is something good to know rather than to gloss over,

A beautiful blend of original diary entries and the factual account of Anne Lister's life, this is a perfect introduction to the lesbian icon of early 1800's Britain.
