She's like the Jane Austen of lesbian romance except like with her life

I'm done reading stuff to just check a box. Maybe if I had actually watched the HBO series I would enjoy the painful amount of detail here. Once she started reading letters about her constipation, I was done.

What a treasure to have discovered Anne Lister through the Gentleman Jack television series. The book is a wonderful companion, with the show closely following the actual events in Anne Lister's life. I remain gobsmacked and delighted at what a force of nature she was, especially for her time! An inspiration and LGBTQ+ hero, to be sure.

Prior to this book I thought Anne Lister sounded so interesting, but this book made her life sound so boring, even when she's romancing a woman and traveling the world.

So many Ann/es (and not always referring to the right one—whoops)! But what a fascinating dive into the archival record of a woman who was both ahead of and very much a product of her time.
