Ah, a Georgette Heyer I had somehow missed. And one of her best ones, too! Glad Sourcebooks finally came out with an edition.

Fun to see Heyer create characters with more nuance than usual, and of course her writing is always a treat...

I spent the first few chapters trying to diagnose the hero on the autistic spectrum (which, now that I think of it, wouldn’t be a bad start to write the modernization of this book). Phoebe, the lead female, made the book enjoyable. So I was particularly annoyed that every character kept pointing out her plainness. I’m all about non-conforming heroines, but it felt to me like they were constantly calling her ugly and then patting themselves on the back for it.

I’d like to read a synopsis of a modern Sylvester, except maybe with a different Paris subplot.

On occasion, I reread a few of Georgette Heyer’s Regency romances, which have been some of my favorite reading for many years. Just recently, I reread Sylvester, which in some editions is titled Sylvester, or the Wicked Uncle.
