Between Friends and Lovers, was a beautifully written romance. I really enjoyed Shirlene Obuobi's writing style, her characters and their development throughout the book really had me wanting them to find their happily ever afters. They were diverse, and interesting and all had their own complex stories.
The book dives straight in, and I think within the first few pages we met the main three characters, Dr Josephine Boateng, a doctor and influencer who is a little lost in her life, Malcolm Waters a very successful author,  and Ezra Adelman - Jo's best friend and the man she's been in love with for many years!

The book dives straight into an array of characters within the first few pages which definitely encouraged me to pay attention so I could keep up with the introductions. The multiple perspectives per chapter are narrated by Josephine Boateng, a Doctor and influencer and Malcolm Waters, a very successful author, and Ezra Adelman, Jo's best friend, and the man she's been in love with for many years!
 Cue the love triangle!
I love the honesty in this book, Mal is an absolute gentleman, he gives Jo the space she needs to work through her many ups and downs, he falls hard, and first, but he never expects her to be in the same place as him.
I won't give away too much more, but there are a few trigger warnings, check the website for further details, all of these heavier subjects were dealt with such grace.
A beautiful honest read, I can not wait to add more of Shirlene Obuobi's work to my to be read list!

A BIG thank you to Netgalley and Quercus Books  for the ARC.

This was such a fun and easy read! I love a good easy romance and this is the first book I have read of this author, and it won’t be the last. The way the friendship transitions to lovers was such a treat. I am gonna try to get this one for my book club one month!

An enjoyable and easy read! The characters were likable and I enjoyed the normalness and healthiness of the relationship in this novel. The love triangle was a bit lacking for me, the tension could’ve been built a lot more and I also kinda wish we’d have had more Ezra and some chapters from Ezra’s point of view. Some plot points were left hanging which was a shame (her mum, the tv show).

Overall an enjoyable read with diverse and likeable characters. Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for the ARC, all opinions are my own. 3.5 stars 🌟

First of all, I fell in love with the cover and knew this was going to be a love triangle story that I needed to read and it definitely didn’t disappoint.

Dr. Josephine Boateng was not only a doctor but an influencer who has been “adopted” into her best friend Ezra Adelman’s wealthy family. Due to issues with her mother, this Ghandian-American emancipated herself from her at age 16. When she met Ezra in college they because close friends but she fell in love with him along the way and stuck by her best friend’s side while he dated several women. Jo hid her feelings but always wanted something more.

In walks Malcom Waters into her life. Mal is a writer and photographer who is 2 years out a 10 year relationship. He meets Jo who gives him the confidence to step outside the box with his career and to speak up for himself. Her beauty and her assertiveness makes him fall for her. But with her feelings for her best friend Ezra and Jo not really knowing what love is, will Mal’s feelings be reciprocated? Will Ezra finally see what’s been right in front of him for years?

I absolutely loved this but I wanted more🤣

Mal is a cinnamon bun, Ezra is a f*ckboi and Jo is learning to love and accept love in any and all forms. Obuobi is so very talented (and nice) and I love everything and all she writes. Sigh....another wonderful romance!
Don't get me wrong, Ezra is a pretty great person but he is all wrong for Jo....I do want to hear his story though...hint hint, nudge nudge :)
Thanks to HarperCollins for the ARC!
