Chronicling Broad's beginnings as a young English teacher in a Japanese school to becoming a renowned YouTuber and documentarian. Most of the memoir charts Broad's first few years as a British man living in Japan; the culture shock, finding his feet, failing, trying again, and discovering his focus. Told with his familiar wit and unwavering self-depreciation, Broad shares more behind the scenes than you'll find on his YouTube channel. If you're already familiar with Chris Broad, you will hear this memoir in his voice even if you don't have the audiobook.

I realize this is a memoir, but somehow it’s an insulting caricature of an ignorant white foreigner. Ignorant Brits and Americans fall into a similarly obnoxious bucket. It doesn’t feel informed, but rather, lacking in perspective, culture and worthwhile insights. I found this to be an aggravating and terrible read, even if you really want to read travel accounts that take place in Japan.
