This is my third Amor Towles book -- he is a very gifted storyteller. I enjoyed the glimpse of 1930's Manhattan and the high life for the privileged of the time. However, some of the characters' conflicts weren't particularly interesting to me, so I'd actually rate this a 3.5 with the bump up for the good writing.

More like 4.5 stars, I felt like the ending didn’t fit, or maybe I just didn’t like it.

One of the most fun reads I can remember! Period NY fiction with sarcasm and a woman finding her footing in a world that wants her to be a certain way and she said actually no? Yes please. Special affection for an idea that one can have nostalgia for days they are glad to have behind them

Damn it, sucked in once again by beautiful cover art and an enticing description, only to get stuck with...meh.

3.5 stars. I love Towles’s writing but I enjoyed these characters. I’m just not sure I loved this story. Katey has a lot of affection for Eve, who is a wholly selfish and manipulative person. Eve is such a strong presence in the first half of the book and then ... whoosh ... out of the picture. I struggled with the timeframe of the book, that this all happened within one year.
