This one took a while to get into with a lot of characters introduced quickly and getting the timelines to make sense in my head, but it really took off! I really appreciated the non-Western writing style/narrative structure, the changes of POV to express who had the power to write their own narrative and whose was told for them, and the incredibly nuanced look at religion, colonialism, and war.

An interesting story set in a history I didn't know. All the right ingredients but somehow not very captivating.
