Good but the ending was predictable

I’ve seen somewhere that it’s obvious who commits the crime but as someone who was annotating this book (marking every clue or line that sparked my spidey senses) closely, I didn’t guess the ending until it was too soon… and loved it.

Beautifully written, tragic mystery. Amazingly similar to Murder on the Orient Express but in a much different climate.

Ingenious plot! I didn't come close to figuring it out.

The first Christie that I correctly guessed! While I didn't have the exact methodology planned out, I give myself credit for getting nearly all the way there. Although, I don't think it was all that impressive, as I never really felt many other of the suspects had enough motive. So to me, this felt more of a how-dun-it than a who-dun-it. Still, in typical Christie fashion, it is littered with red hearings and foreshadowing. Specifically, (again, in typical Christie fashion) many what seem to be off handed remarks reveal more behind a characters true intent and what is going on in their mind. More than anything, this book artfully illustrated the disturbing lengths someone will go to for their love of someone else.

There's a reason Agatha Christie is the mistress of mysteries, and after reading Death on the Nile I know why. I love how even in a plot driven novel (because mysteries always are plot driven) she still manages to give us some well rounded characters. Not all fully fleshed out, but enough so that we care about them. The solution to the main mystery was complex and I enjoyed how many other little mysteries were also included. And I loved that every one of them was solved by the book's end. I couldn't stop reading once I started.

I really enjoyed the mystery/crime part of this. I didn’t care for the extra parts involving the extra characters (proposals, etc.), but that added to the charm. It definitely holds up after one hundred years.
