Hoo boy... I'd forgotten how brutal these books were. But not how awesome! The latest book in the HATER series is packed with just as much drama, suspense, and gore that made the initial trilogy so shocking and wild to read. This time the stakes are raised when the characters find themselves trapped on an island. Literally one of the worst places you can be when every other person seems to have a mental breakdown and go completely homicidal. As with the previous trilogy, Moody does not shy away from the violence. His descriptions make the scenes uncomfortably real, and you'll find yourself turning the page at frantic rates to see if your favourite characters make it out alive. I was excited to keep reading, but also scared because there was no way to predict who was going to make it out alive, who might be a Hater, and who might make a colossal, crushing mistake. I wish I could say these books were for everybody (they probably won't be, since the prologue is ruthless) and some people might get turned off the visceral violence. That said, I do recommend them to everyone who likes good, fast-paced horror and is looking for a change in the "zombie" trope. Moody is a great writer and I can't wait to see what he comes up with next!

So this is part 4 of an ongoing series but works as a stand-alone read. There really isn’t enough info about the Haters to make a real impact but I do like the premise of it. This story was meh, a decent attempt at human nature under pressure but really falls flat

If you’re really into zombies and seeing how humans function during an apocalypse, I highly recommend! Unfortunately, this isn’t my preferred topic to read.
Truthfully, I don’t know how I feel about this book. The isolated island of Skek sort of reminded me of Isla Nublar from Jurassic Park, so I enjoyed that aspect. However, the main disappointment with this book is that the cause for the Haters was never explained. I feel I would’ve enjoyed that much more. Not a great ending, either.

So turns out this is book 4. But luckily enough it doesn't spoil books 1-3 and can be its own. Excellent writing style of David Moody keep me on the edge of my seat and engaged with the book. Definitely need to read the rest of his work now!

3.5 stars. Really just because I'm not a fan of thrillers... For some reason this came in a fantasy book box, but it's just zombies. It definitely moved along and was a quick read.

I don't know if it's just me jumping in on the fourth book (first in the second trilogy?) or something, but it feels like I would've gotten more if I ended up starting from the beginning, even if this was completely readable stand-alone.
As well, when are we going to get out of these 'zombie' books where characters continually have to ask "but am I the real zombie here?"
FURTHER-- there were so many instances where characters' jackassery turned on a dime. I don't think I truly disliked most of the characters (save for one) until about five pages before they were killed because their dickish motivations came out of left-field.
