I have very little exposure to more horror oriented manga, so I wasn't sure what to expect from this volume. It's almost twice the size of a standard manga volume, but feels like it accomplishes plotwise about the same amount. There wasn't filler per se, but it just is very slow moving. The main character is decently interesting but seeing panel after panel of his shocked expression as people revealed things to him got a bit tedious. Particularly given the summary of this volume on the book itself, it felt like this volume was merely establishing that summary and nothing new was revealed beyond the intricacies of some character relationships. While it was definitely a nice change from all the generic anime-style teen mangas I've read so far in terms of visual style, the plot is just a bit too slow for me to keep going with the series.
Really interesting premise and fast-paced beginning to the series. For fans of psychological horror/thriller manga.

First time reading manga and I really enjoyed it. It's very quick paced and I like how you can finish it within two hours. The story was a traditional origin story especially with the way it ended. Im' actually a bit excited to see where the plot will go. It's kind of funny though that the one time the doctor decided to not follow his corrupt hospital director to save am politician and instead save a child, that child grows up to be a serial killer. Very nice message.

A great start to a promising series! Murdery mystery, suspense, tension, and intrigue--this has it all. I watched the anime adaptation of this series a while back and loved it, and based on this first volume, it's looking like I will enjoy the manga just as much. It's been long enough that I don't remember everything that happens (plus not to mention sometimes anime adaptations are less than faithful to their manga counterparts), so this is sure to be a fun and entertaining ride!
