It took me a while to get to this book. I read the first four almost one after the other, but with this one, I was wary. You see, the two main characters in the book, both introduced in book 1 and prominent in the series, had expectations to live up to, and they had a history. The latter is more of a personal issue because history often entails backstory/flashbacks, and I've mentioned before how I hate those fucking things.

But in this case, they worked. Mainly because Elle Kennedy is awesome. She knows just how much she needs to give the reader and just when. She balances the past and present, the scenes that we need to see, the info we need, all of it, so well. You can tell she knows what she's doing and it's brilliant.

Now for the plot of the book: As I said, the protagonists, Jim and Noelle, have a history. And while I can't tell you what that is, I can say that it's not particularly good. The both of then hate each other. There are, on every meeting, semi-serious death threats going around, maybe more serious than semi, so it's quite a surprise when, on being contracted to eliminate Jim, Noelle instead decides to help him find whoever wants him dead. Oh and, did I forgot to mention? Jim is mercenary/super soldier, and Noelle is an assassin.

Now add all of that to the severe amounts of sexual tension between the two, and you have an awesome book. One which I think I've already sold. I mean. what else do you need me to say?

The book is very well written, both the characters kick ass, are interesting and likable. I love the story of the novel, the romance, and the revelations. The pace is fantastic and this is, overall, a really good read that you won't be able to put down. Seriously, I read it in two sittings (food is important, too) and I highly recommend reading this book and others by [author:Elle Kennedy|1935000]. She's a great author and this is one of her best book (second best, for me, to be accurate).

My first read from Elle Kennedy and I jumped in to the middle of the Killer Instincts series but I felt this read easily as a stand-alone even though there were a lot of secondary characters and side stories I'm sure came from the earlier books in the series. Jim and Noelle have hated each other for almost 20 years. Except that hate started as love and the attraction is still there even if neither want to admit it. When Noelle accepts a contract to kill Jim she gives him a fighting chance to warn him but when this puts them in close proximity to find out who's behind the contract they can no longer ignore what tore them apart years ago. A very exciting, sexy, fast paced romantic suspense from a great new-to-me author. I'm excited to continue the series. Good read!

FINALLY! This was the book that we have been teased with through 4 books and a novella. We finally get the low down on the love/hate relationship between Jim & Noelle. You can read this book standalone but it won’t be half as much fun. I loved this book! Filled with action adventure and some off the charts sex this is a page turner that will keep you up past your bedtime. There are a whole lot of surprises I never saw coming. Go buy this book.

In MIDNIGHT ACTION we finally find out Jim Morgan and Noelle’s story. In the other books in this series they are constantly taunting each other, but you can also feel the chemistry flowing between them. We become acquainted with Jim and Noelle when they were young, naive and vulnerable, before they put up all the walls they have today. The reader is taken back in time and the story alternates from present day to eighteen years ago when Jim and Noelle first meet. Not all authors can make this type of story flow well, but Elle Kennedy does a wonderful job.

Jim is an ex Army Ranger who now runs a successful mercenary company. His group of mercenaries is the most successful and sought after team in the world. I admire Jim, he’s a rugged guy, but is also vulnerable and not afraid to show his feelings.

Noelle is a paid assassin and has a group of women working for her. Sometimes Jim and Noelle work on the same cases together, which isn’t easy because they’re both stubborn and don’t trust each other. Noelle is tough and acts like she doesn’t need anyone, but she has scars from her past that she’s never recovered from.

Elle Kennedy writes a well written, action packed story full suspense, with some humor thrown in, to relieve the tension. The characters are believable, interesting, and down to earth. We catch up with many of the characters from past books in this series and I love the camaraderie shared between the guys on the team. Midnight Action is another installment in the Killer Instincts series and each book is a stand-alone. I have read and enjoyed all the books in this series, but this is my new favorite.
