Sky has super overprotective mother who finally lets her go to public school. She meets crazy Holden who dropped out of high school for beating up a gay boy. She finds out he's also lost a sister thirteen months ago. Then they fall in love. Interspersed between chapters are little blips of someone's past.
So when I first read this story, I thought Holden's sister had been abused. Then further on, I thought Sky (mc) had been abused. Then I thought she had been abused by her dad. But the truth was way crazier than I expected.
This entire story is a can of worms.
Okay well, first of all, disregarding the plot. There is a slight rule I have when reading ya. How would I feel about this stuff happening to me? So! Holden crawling into Sky's room when she's sleeping to kiss her.
YES that is a definite no no! Second, Holden gets very very very angry at a certain someone and scares Sky when he is being overprotective.
Also big no no.
Third, well okay alright the entire second half of the book is a please don't do this, but at least let us kind of analyze the slightly normal-er aspect of Sky and Holden's relationship. They are really weird.
I don't know where to begin or end, first of all, everything is so unlikely. Six and Bedrin are both like fantastic magical creatures from the beyond, who honestly finds best friends like that? And in a matter of two weeks? Also what the hell Holden, why are you so perfect/ impossible to believe in? Let's confess two weeks after we meet each other! I live you! I live you! All arounds.
And their relationship moves really really fast. Ah hah hah.
Suddenly in two months they're. proposing! And coupling! And being generally non believable but hey that's ya.
Now for the good parts about this book! Holy shit. The description of the non-kiss. Wow that was pretty much how you do non-kissing/ non-humping done right.
Second, gray morality. I love it when what is right is not always what is correct. And what is wrong is sometimes the best choice. Was Karen right or not? It's subjective. But makes for tasty readings.
The ending! Who cares plotwise if it was good or not, I'm ecstatic this book even had an ending. For the last ten chapters, I kept expecting the book to just end right there, because ya nowadays does this amazingly annoying cliffhanger ending. This book doesn't do that. THERE WAS AN ACTUAL ENDING
APPLAUSE APPLAUSE
Okay, I know why Sky and Holder had to develop a relationship so quickly. It's because they had to deal with the events that happened later on, and that could only happen if they had a strong enough bond to fight through their issues. But it still bothers me when they're suddenly each other's soulmates after one month.
Such a nice solid balance of good and bad. 3/5

Yeah. She did it again. This book was amazing. Sucks you in and then flips the story on its head over and over.
Humurous.
Romantically written in a very unique way.
