I'm aware of the negative reputation that CoHo has in the book reading world, however I am on a mission to review and reread my read shelf to make it more organised and this was first on my list.
The way the mystery came out was well paced and one of the main highlights for me. In my room at night in the dark Sky's bad dreams and some of her memories genuinely made my heart beat faster, not because they were scary but because I felt equally in the unknown of it all. The character interactions were good. I feel like I could use the word 'good' a lot, meaning it was an average read.
Sky
I liked her as a main character. She made some silly choices sometimes but once you read and see the situation she's going through it makes sense. I can see why some consider her to be slut shaming but imo it doesn't make her bad for stating her friend changes boys like she changes ice cream flavours. It's not negative it's just a fact, and she just isn't like that. My only real negatives for her is that she doesn't stand out. Nothing makes her memorable. (P.S. why do people keep making their female main characters run!? where did this come from? It feels like they are always doing track or distance running for fun)
Holder
As a male love interest he was okay, but I was waiting for him to be great. His start was very Edward Cullen, and once you read on it makes sense but as a reader and for Sky it is just plain weird. I loved how he also became friends with Breckin, sometimes the love interest is only with the main character and makes no effort to see her friends but Holder did. I appreciated he had emotions, he cried and he talked about his feelings.
Side characters
I loved Six I wanted more of Six but I understand the plot device that meant she wasn't physically around as much.
Breckin was fun, he was a really good friend and I liked how he made an effort with Holden. He could be considered a 'stereotypical gay best friend' but his sexuality only came up twice ish as part of Holden's history.
Sky's mother, Karen was well written. You understand her more later in the book. their relationship wasn't a 'lovey dovey' kind, sometimes it feels transactional which might be intentional.
Overall this book is a solid 3.5 imo. It was good enough to keep me engaged and although Holden isn't making my fave book bf list and Sky doesn't stand out that much, I didn't hate this book and I could see the right person being recommended it.

I am NOT a romance lover, so all the romance and detailed pages about the characters’ kisses and sexual encounters was not for me. I absolutely understand the necessity for it in this book, but it was a bit much for my taste. Never fear though, because Ms. Hoover made up for it in the last third of the book packing it with action, heart breaking discoveries, and tough decisions. I thoroughly enjoyed it and intend to read the sequel.
good start, went downhill after he basically lied to her face and she just accepted it bc he’s hot
Started out good, but got way too emotional way too quickly, and I just didn't believe it. A nice female lead though, she impressed me.
Really, really loved this book! I read it in 3 hours one morning, neglecting to study because I was distracted.
What I loved was there were plenty of twists within the story that made it interesting and the reader want to keep reading. I'm looking forward to reading "Losing Hope" the next book in the series.
