Some many great review for this book, but I don't think I would have finished it if my friend hadn't raved about it. It took me 2 weeks to get through it, which is way longer than the norm, but this story made me uncomfortable. It was about 2 17-year olds and the love scenes were far too mature for that age. Which isn't to say explicit, but what 17 year old wants to "make love"? If I could give this book at 3 1/2, that would be my true rating, but if they had made the love scenes more age appropriate, the story line, was actually really good.

Everything he said and did thats weird and unexplainable now we knw...
Instead of heartwrenching and sad this book to is shcoking and painful to read. Not painful tht i'll put the book down but painful lik storywise painful it kills me to see and knw what had happened and every single page is kills me but I cant stop reading it because I want to knw I want to knw everything. It is so painful so so so painful yet I hardly shed a tear lik other colleen's book I've read. Tho this is the saddest saddest of all I did not cry. Rather I sit there empty and dont knw what to think.
The characters were fine. Sky is crazy sometimes and I sometimes hate her for blaming things on Holder even before I knw why Holder reacted the way he did. Holder was my favourite character in this book. No wait! My favourite is Karen karen!! Shes the strongest of all. For sure no doubt! Their moments were sweet and cute butnot adorable to the point that I squeal or fangirl real hard.
The entire tone of the book was heavy too.
At first I thought they are going towards domestic abuse. Maybe his childhood is of him and her sister being beatin up. Something like that according to his reaction when he saw the bruise.
I srsly love how when we knew what happened everything he did made perfect sense and I love going back and spotting those moments.
The truth totally got me. I knew she somehow forgotten something for sure before the half of the book. Through her reactions and how she let people just touch her and I thought she wanted someone to love her and all. But then it wasnt like that. I even suspected hey maybe she somehow is his sister.... I was antisipating and ready for tragic stuff but i really did not expect that.
Then i now think back to their connection and 'first encounter', it all made sense. Even till this moment my brain is running and solving the puzzles.
Things were too dark for my taste but I did enjoy it immensely and thats why I gave it a 4.0
Colleen never ends a book in a bad way. It always ALWAYS END not necessarily happily but is alwayss beautiful for sure
Tho after after I finish this.... Its a 4.4!! Endings man the endings always gives me feels
This wasn't my favorite by Colleen Hoover. I really liked the characters but I'm mixed about the story.
Holder and Sky are adorable!!
They seem like those couples in high school you see sitting down against a tree just holding each other.
I could FEEL the love between them.
Their love for one another surpassed all the obstacles that came their way.
I loved how Holder always had the right words to say to Sky. He was her shoulder to cry on, just like she was to him.
No matter how bad, how unreal, how hurtful, shocking, painful things got, Sky made all the right choices- and that is what i loved about her. She was brave when it came to confronting her past. She had doubts about what decisions to make about her future. Sky, a strong, brave character i related to in some ways and felt strongly attached to.
***
This is story is unique in it's own way. It's beautiful, touching, inspiring. It's definitely one of those stories that will stay in my heart for many years.
That exactly what I've been wanting to read, a story with an unpredictable plot.
I was drawn to it right from the beginning.
Highly recommend it!

Do you like your YA romance emotionally over-wrought? Wise-beyond-his-years Jekyll coupled with broody-bad (but not as bad as the rumors make him out to be) Hyde romantic hero?
Run to get this book. It's perfect for you.
Sky lives with her adopted, technophobe mother and next to her bestest friend, Six, in the world. They share everything: ice cream, love of The Jerk, and a tendency to make out with lots of boys. Six decides to take a year abroad just as she's convinced Sky (homeschooled)to try public high school for her senior year.
Sky's reputation precedes her to the school, but she manages to find two boys who befriend her. One, is the usual gay-best friend (also Mormon) and the other is Holder, the bad boy rumored to have spent the last year in juvenile detention after gay-bashing a boy so badly he ended up in the hospital.
Only the rumors aren't everything they seem. And Sky's strange attraction to Holder, as well as the secret he is keeping from her, will change everything about who Sky thinks she is and how she feels.
So yeah, lots of teen angst in this one in a kind of movie-of-the-week way. Sky was okay, but I got frustrated both with Holden's unexplained moodiness, his "I will only tell you the truth" when we KNOW he's a liar-pants-on-fire, and the whole make-out psychoanalysis he does on/with Sky. I kind of either wanted him to be as broken as Sky and have both of them deal with the repercussions of that, or have him be more fully healed himself, and be able to present a normal, non-moody persona to Sky.
But it is very romantic. Yikes! That line where Holder says "Forget the firsts, with you I want the forevers" is very melty-buttery.
And since Sky's character arc revolves around how she doesn't feel things with boys until she meets Holder, there's quite alot of description of heavy-petting and even the deed itself, which is not as common in YA romance, so the book isn't something I really want my 6th grader reading.
While the savvy Oprah-book-club reader likely will guess some of the trauma in Sky's life that leads to her numbness, there is a twist at the end that took me by surprise, so kudos to the author for working that in there.
This Book's Snack Rating: Like Butterscotch brownies for the heavy, sugary-sweetness of Holder's romantic wisdom and teen lurve with satisfying secrets and drama at the end

Yikes, it started out like a light teenage romance novel, albeit with a much more badass main character than usual, and then… wow. It took a turn to the serious. A gripping and powerful read, I’m glad I stumbled upon this book. It deserves all of the stars readers are giving it.
i have very mixed feelings on this book. it was a quick read and engaging, but the dialogue was quite cringey and the first half wasn't great. the plot twists were interesting but i don't think the topics should be used as shock-value twists in writing. overall, it was just alright.
edit: after a day of reflecting, i'm lowering my rating from a 3 to a 2. the more i think about the themes and details, this book is problematic and could be harmful if someone wasn't prepared for the trigger warnings before reading. even the romance in the book is creepy and makes me feel icky, which is the forefront of the whole story.

I was expecting a predictable love story filled with minor teen drama and adolescent angst. But I was presently surprised by the heart breaking story Sky harbored. I also enjoyed the different characters and their various personalities. Sky's laid back, indifference; Holder's sweet and fierce edge, and Six's kind and catty personality. It was an emotionally satisfying book.
another wild ride by ms coho and not necessarily in a good way....still good enough to keep me hooked until the end though
