Hopeless

4.05 AVERAGE

2.5 stars, really did not enjoy the twist in this book

CoHo does it again...rips my heart out!

At first, I felt this was a disappointing book from CoHo. We follow the life of a teenage orphan, Sky. The entire story is told from her POV. She is a rumored slut, but claims she is not a slut. It's because she fools around with boys left and right, but never actually goes all the way. To her, this does not classify as "slut". Sorry, but to me, it does. Then we meet Dean Holder, who Sky thinks is hot and the first guy who actually makes her "feel" something. He's got this mysterious bad boy vibe and I think that's part of the attraction Sky has on him. But he's all sort of bad news that an ordinary person should run away from. I thought the story's gonna revolve with the two of them dancing around, wondering when they'll have their first kiss and when they're gonna go all the way. Just your typical cliche stuff.

Also, I wasn't a fan of their relationship. I felt it was a bit insta-love-ish, scratch that.. it's insta-lust-ish. It felt just like it's all just lust and desire, and no romance. True, I felt all the teasing and it was exciting and super hot, but I was looking for more substance. Plus, the "I live you" didn't work for me. Felt that was a bit corny. And then CoHo turned everything around. The story took a turn so subtle and so wonderfully done. I had goosebumps all over when Sky started connecting the dots and from them on, I could not put the book down. Suddenly we see a different side of the characters and I came to appreciate and understand them. It was just moving and emotional and you can see the characters' depth when everything was revealed. I found myself feeling a bit teary-eyed when I finished the book. So sorry for doubting you, Colleen Hoover.

For the majority of the first part of the book, I was sure to give this a 2-star, maybe 3. But just for that unexpected emotional punch in my gut, I think this deserves a 4.

4.5* but only because it’s over and I wish I could see Dean and Sky after everything. Once they’ve gotten past the worst of it.

A very unexpected twist turned a typical love story into a beautiful page-turner.

I really enjoyed this book, specially because you're expecting the plot to take the usual happy light story route and it ends up surprising you (it gets really serious and sad btw) . On a side note: Colleen Hoover what kind of friends give presents like e-readers and cell phones? Get me friends like that!
medium-paced

Amazing, emotional and very surprising book. Wasn't expecting to like it as much as I did. I laughed, and I cried at the end.
