Sky ha diciassette anni ed è alle prese con il suo primo giorno di scuola. Sua madre l'ha sempre fatta studiare a casa ed è sempre stata contraria ad ogni tipo di tecnologia, ma Sky vuole provare quest'esperienza e non ha paura di niente. Non ha mai nemmeno provato un particolare interesse per i ragazzi, anche se di nascosto ne ha fatti intrufolare parecchi la notte in camera sua, solo per baciarli ed annullarsi nella totale mancanza di emozioni che quei baci le provocano, in una totale ritirata dentro se stessa. Tutte le emozioni che non ha mai provato tuttavia emergono nell'incontro casuale con Holder, un bellissimo quanto inquietante ragazzo che da subito sembra mostrare un inusuale interesse nei suoi confronti, lasciandola agitata e confusa. Ma ovviamente gli incontri casuali fra Sky e Holder non sono terminati, e la volta successiva i due ragazzi scoprono di avere in comune la passione per la corsa, che diventa un appuntamento fisso e permette loro di conoscersi sempre meglio e all'attrazione che provano di crescere e trasformarsi in qualcosa di più. Ma Holder nasconde fin dall'inizio dei segreti e Sky rimarrà sconvolta nello scoprire che la riguardano.
Una storia d'amore intensa e romantica, capace per questi ragazzi di essere un'àncora di salvezza in una vita che ad entrambi ha riservato tanta tristezza e tanto dolore.
Lo stile della Hoveer mi è piaciuto moltissimo, delicato e coinvolgente, è stato capace di inchiodarmi a una storia verso cui ero partita con numerose riserve.
Ci sono cose tuttavia che non mi hanno convinta del tutto, come ad esempio il numero eccessivo di coincidenze necessarie a far progredire la storia (da cui credo proprio abbiano preso ispirazione per la traduzione italiana del titolo!) Alcune sono molto improbabili se non totalmente assurde; così come alcuni comportamenti dei protagonisti esulano da ogni logica o buon senso; o li rendono molto poco credibili.
In più, ma questa è più una questione di gusti personali, penso sia stato dato un po' troppo spazio agli sbaciucchiamenti e strusciamenti vari fra i protagonisti, cosa che a un certo punto è diventata davvero stucchevole. Forse avrei preferito meno scene di preliminari e più spazio a personaggi secondari come Brecken o Six, di cui ci viene detto poco ma che sono davvero interessanti e originali e che mi hanno conquistata da subito suscitando le mie simpatie molto più dei due protagonisti.

There is a reason this book was on my "own but will not read shelf"... I hate Young Adult books. Against my better judgement I allowed this book to be recommended to me...big mistake. It isn't a horrible book, the base story was intriging, once you got past the young adult stuff. In my opinion Young Adult books are just as unrealistic as Science Fiction books.
Did not like this one as much as Colleen Hoovers other books. It was a great story but I didn't connect with the MC (whose name I cant remember a week after reading the book) the way I did with Layken (from the Slammed series, whose book I haven't read in 9 months)
Colleen is a gifted story teller. I would read anything if she wrote it, the woman is hilarious, seriously, have you read her blog? Maybe that is why I didn't connect with this story. In Slammed there was some moments of reprieve from the sadness and drama, we didn't get that here.

This book is so much more than romance. It is filled with love, all kinds of love. It deals with a lot of huge issues.. which I honestly was not prepared for.
I have read quite a few CoHo books, November 9 being my favorite this far. I thought with my experience of reading many of her books no plot twist could shock me anymore, until I read this book.
Hopeless has been on my TBR for months, I heard many great reviews and a few bad ones. I dove into the book not knowing much about it as I don't like to read the previews. Nothing could have prepared me for the plot twists in this book or the emotions I would experience while reading it. Colleen did another fantastic job getting me hooked into the characters and their stories along with all the twists and turns throughout the book. There are truly some bombs thrown at you that were not expected.
I do not want to give anything away. But please go read this book, as I said earlier November 9 has been my faviourite CoHo book. Hopeless topped it by a landslide. This book was riveting and so hard to put down.

This book is so underrated for a CoHo book!!! One of my favs! The connection between Holder and Sky is intense and the whole book just wow'd me! It's a heavy one ❤️

This book was good. It was well written, it was a great story of overcoming a situation. But there was no trigger warning. This book contains s*xual abuse that I was not ready for. I probably should have read reviews but I honestly never considered it , considering I've read almost every other college Hoover book. This books is the book that will cause me to need a break from reading.
