A bit on the nose at times when it comes to the societal and institutional issues the characters are dealing with, but I generally found the worldbuilding enjoyable and the characters fun.

so poorly researched, obviously on a very shallow level, and constantly trying to bend science fact to support a poorly-maintained politic. also all of the characters are obnoxious as fuck.

Light and fun sci-fi read perfect for the holidays. Naked mole rats and flying mooses and interspecies romance. Don’t ask why, just go with it.

Ranging from goofy, dorky conversations to serious socio-political future possibilities, I, unfortunately, ended up enjoying The Terraformers less the longer it went on. There's a lot to like in the book, but Newitz's vast pool of creative ideas got bogged down in a rambling plot that felt overly contrived. I don't regret reading it, though.
