Should have dnf'ed, but like a sentient train wreck, I couldn't look away.

Read a review copy. I liked the hopeful tone of the story. I enjoyed the (literal) world building. Many interesting ideas that might've been more interesting to explore through less linear short stories, rather than a novel in three parts.

My favourite part was the bit with the sentient flying train & the cat who is also a journalist.

Literal worldbuilding politics overlaid with ecology, gender, and animal intelligence/rights discussions. Reasonable people overcoming the odds to make a better, more equitable world, which is so not IRL at the moment. Sigh.

An entertaining read! A more ambitious vision of the far future than you usually find and it explores some interesting concepts. Felt just a tad shallow for me to rate higher. And the vision of a flying moose still doesn’t chime quite right, like an even more grotesque ET.

3.5 if I could. The concept was super cool, but similar to other reviewers, the story was just… boring sometimes? This happened to me with another of the author’s books, so maybe I’m just not connecting with their storytelling. I did throughly enjoy the critique of capitalism and colonialism, but the villains were comically bad with nothing to them but being “evil.” I’d say it’s worth reading, but only if people were already into the genre.

This had the potential for being a 5 star read. I felt like the world building in the story was lacking and I wanted to know more about the year 59,000 than the book gave.
