Oh my goodness what a way to finish out the year! Hands down my favorite Holiday read this season!

I really enjoyed this one, as I knew I would, having read a million other books by Brittainy C. Cherry. I did think the 3rd act conflict was a little lazy and annoying, but I think my expectations are lower for holiday reads so it all worked well!

I really, really enjoyed this book.

Kai and Holly deserve the world but most importantly, they truly deserved one another. The banter was amazing, their chemistry was through the roof and I rooted for them practically from the beginning. Also, the twist with MJ? Did NOT see that coming.

The scene of Kai washing and styling Holly's hair for bed will be imprinted in my mind forever. As well as him kicking one of Holly's dates out of his restaurant for fetishising her. This was even before Holly had a chance to react. He was having NONE of that shit. He was an ally through and through.

The side characters were amazing. Holly's family was amazing. Curtis and Ayumi were great. A very special shoutout to Mano who is the best fictional brother ever. He also deserves the world. I cannot imagine this book without him even though he was in very few scenes.

I've taken away a star because I felt that there was very predictable drama towards the end that was quite unnecessary. It felt like added drama for the sake of added drama which I am starting to find off-putting in romance books. Holly did get on my nerves and I didn't really connect to her desperation/insecurity. She did annoy me but at the same time I really wanted to empathise with her because what she went through was truly horrible and I don't know how I would have been in her position.

this novel would have been SO GOOD if it weren't for the writing style...

2.5 Sterne

Really a 4.5⭐️ read. Yet again Brittainy has pleasantly surprised me. This is the second book I've read by Brittainy and just like the first one she got me. I was not expecting to love this book so much. I was completely enthralled. I laughed so much. Holly was a dorky writer and beautiful and Kai was a handsome, grumpy, bar/restaurant owner and the banter between the two was hilarious. Both betrayed and hurt by the people closet to them but true love always heals the broken hearted. Brittainy is definitely going to be placed as one of my fav authors. This book reminds me I need to finish the Elements series. Brittainy knows how to write. I also discovered her and Kandi Steiner co-wrote together in which I love Kandi's writing as well. So it doesn't surprise me that I keep turning to their books.

lovely Christmas read

As time ticks closer to the anniversary of her biggest heartbreak, Holly decides to dip back into the dating pool. She just needs someone to take home for Christmas as she just can’t face returning as a single woman.

But the dating pool turns out to be more of a cesspool as she has date after date with men that just aren’t right for her. Some of which are even downright rude.

Since all her first dates take place in her neighbour’s restaurant/bar, he has been privy to every single one. And even though Holly and Kai originally had a meet-ugly themselves, they’ve grown something of a friendship over the last couple of weeks. And so Kai offers Holly some dating advice. Which seems to work. So why does he hate that fact so much?

Holly and Kai were so cute together. Their relationship grew so organically, and though they were both scared and scarred from previous relationships, they weathered their fear together. Mostly.

Mano was such a great kid, and I know they acknowledged that their parents raised Mano in the polar opposite way to how they raised Kai…but they were awful to Kai. Absolutely toxic, horrible people.

The fact that both Kai and Holly had such awful exes too was heartbreaking because they were both such wonderful people. But it inadvertently led them to each other so…silver linings.

There were a few little typos and grammatical errors unfortunately but this was such an easy read otherwise. Sweet, cute, funny, hot, heartwarming. The perfect Christmas book.

I’m not the cutesy romance type, but this book had me swooning! I loved reading Holly and Kai’s journey to heal themselves and come to terms with their feelings with one another. Their banter was amazing and the side characters were so lovable (@Mano).

I had a slight issue with some of the repeating phrases (snickered, brown eyes with emerald flecks), but that is just me being picky. All in all this is a fantastic read!

Read with my friend, Dannica
