A Kingdom of Lies continues to follow Robins perspective picking up where the last book left off. The first 1/3 of the book had SO much packed into it, I couldn’t put it down. It slowed down a bit afterwards but even with moving at a slower pace it’s full of non-stop twists.

As always the characters growth/backgrounds are so good. I love to hate the villains.

Another great fantasy romance. I’m looking forward to reading the next book!

Perfect for fans of ACOTAR/TOG or Folk of the Air series. This steamy queer fae romantasy is non-stop action, magic, and deception around every turn.

Such a good sequel with plot twists I wasn't expecting. You see and learn so much more about the Hunters as well as more history of the Fey. Very enthralling a story you just can't put down.

I cried with grief, feeling as though yet another person had been taken from me. Killed. By Doran all the same, even if Erix’s heart still beat as he left me, it was no longer the tune of his own soul. “Do not remember me as the man who tore your life in two, but the person who would have given his life to see you thrive.

——

I gave 3 stars to this book because I’m really confused. I’m not sure if I liked it or not.

I really want to know what happens and I want to see the Icethorn court thrive again but at the same time, everything that happened with Erix was just.. confusing ? And I really didn’t like it.

+ the fact that Robin is now with Duncan, I understand it is supposed to echo to his parents story and all, but I just do not care about Duncan and Robin?

I already felt that Erix’s and Robin’s relationships evolved really fast but with Duncan it just doesn’t make sense for me??? I do not care for the character maybe that’s why I feel disappointed at seeing them together.

Honestly if this book was about Robin saving Erix from his father and taking revenge for the people he lost, I would have given it 5 stars easily.

I still want to know what happens next, but I’m not sure if I’ll care enough for the characters to actually read it. I mean what’s the point, I don’t give a shit about Duncan and Erix is gone?????

Ben has once again WOWED me with a terrific sequel and now I am in desperate need of book 3!
A Kingdom of Lies picks up shortly after A Betrayal of Storms ends and the plot thickens immensely. There is so much character growth and development as we see Robin struggle to come to terms with certain events that have unfolded and his need for revenge intensifies and begins to consume him. The book was so well written and the world building became even more dynamic. This book was more fast paced than the last and even introduced a new love interest. There was a lot of interesting back story that didn't detract from the forward movement of the plot and things were revealed that had my jaw on the floor. The spice was nice as always, and I love that element as well. I highly recommend this book and series. *I received an ARC from the Author but am leaving this review voluntarily.*

A Kingdom of Lies is the Second Book in Ben Alderson's Realm of Fey series. Robin is now king of the Icethorn court, though he has no subjects to rule. Determined to get revenge, he sets out to find an army, even if that army is consisted of his enemies. Robin allows himself to be captured by the hunters in order to strike a deal with their leaders, and along the way finds allies in the most unexpected of places.

I truly enjoyed this book, though there is something about it that was not as outstanding as the first book. I honesty think what I missed in this book was the characters. Robin goes out on his own during this book, and while I think it was essential for him as a character and for his development, it was not what I wanted. I missed the individuals from this first book. I will say that while the character development for Robin was outstanding, I was not a fan of the individual whom he was in a relationship with in this book (spoiler it is not Erix). This relationship felt forced, which is something that I did not enjoy. I get why Erix and Robin needed to almost fall apart in order for Robin to grow, but I do not think creating what is bound to be a love triangle was necessary. To be honest, that is one of the largest reasons that this book was not a five star read for me. I loved the character development, and I loved the plot, but the romance felt forced and there was a lack of characters whom I traditionally love. I am really excited to see where the series goes from here, and I hope we see more of the magical fey that were trapped because I think that will add in a unique perspective. This book contains a lot of fascinating themes that I personally really enjoyed and it brings up the question of how long do you stick with peace or the solution that logically makes the most sense, before you do something controversial?

Thank you to Angry Robot, Ben Alderson, and NetGalley for giving me an eARC of A Kingdom of Lies in exchange for my honest review.
