Loved the concept of this one but the execution just fell flat for me. The ending felt like we didn’t actually resolve anything and just kind of went “it is what it is” 🤷‍♀️ which makes it hard to then care about the story overall. Also I will never fully enjoy a book where the dog unnecessarily dies especially when that dog is a PUG 😡

“It was hard not to feel like there must be magic, that there must be spirits and ghosts and just ‘something else’ out here, just for us, even just for now.”

This was hands down the best book I’ve read this year. I don’t remember the last time I was this moved by a novel. It’s also been a long time since I finished a book and was sad it was over.

This was my first book by Ms. Dimaline, and she has me hooked. This writing was like cutting and edgy and poetic and just so incredibly raw and real. It felt so authentic to the rough-as-hell years of middle and high school. And the exploring of the sexuality and the fascination with dark things. I loved it all. I highly recommend this one.
