“How impossible it was… …to know people from their outer demeanor. How myriad were the masks people wore.”
What an absolutely perfect book.
I laughed. I cried. I swooned.
The book starts off with Kit trying to deceive Lauren—but she sees through his facade. He comes clean and they strike up a deal—she wants freedom from marriage and some adventure. He wants reconciliation with his family. They help each other achieve their goals but catch feelings along the way.
Both MCs have tremendous growth in this book. I loved them both so much.

[5 Stars] Absolutely brilliant. One of my favorite romances ever. It’s not perfect, but I think at this point it would be hard pressed to find a regency romance that is absolute perfection (to me). This comes close.

I have to read a good romance novel each summer and this was a fun one several summers back.
Well Lauren, you didn't get Neville, but you got a better story than Lily. I felt that both Lauren and Kit had more depth and development than Lily and Neville in the first novel. And we finally meet the Bedwyns, who will feature in subsequent novels. Really enjoyed this one.

I really enjoyed this book! I found both of the main characters compelling and fun to read about. I appreciated Lauren's cold reserve and Kit's playful persistence in bringing her out of her shell. Reading from the perspective of a character who would be considered a cold, distant, perfect, and boring lady in another regency romance was an engaging and fun change of pace.
I also loved just how gentle this love story was. Both characters were able to acknowledge one another's flaws, both worked to make the other's life better, and both came to truly care very deeply for the other. It was sweet but not saccharine, and I heartily enjoyed it. I am looking forward to reading the rest of the books in this series!

DNF.
Not bad at all, just wasn't in the mood to read. Bought the book so I can revisit.
